Entries are usually something that you just walk through to get to another part of the house, but there's some prime real estate in an entry that can be truly useful. Let’s explore the possibilities.

Vertical Storage
You can purchase pre-made storage units that can fit along the sides of your entry area. These are not only practical, but attractive as well. These are usually modular units that can include the ubiquitous shoe rack. You can get storage customized and built for size and shape, but with so many retailers out there, it would be difficult to imagine not finding a size and a style to fit just about any entry space. A word to the wise here: Don't skimp. Your entry is the first thing that people (including you) see when they walk in, so spend a little extra if it makes a difference.

Church Pew and Stained Glass
Depending on the size and light of the entry hall you can create your own sacred space. Church pews are not uncommon as attention-getting decoration and even if you can't locate one, they are relatively easy to replicate. You can actually create your own for about $45 per foot (you can find just about anything on the Internet). It’s a great resource if you have limited space and need a short or half pew.
Once you've got your pew in place, you can look at lighting. If your entry has a window, you might want to consider installing a stained glass window of your own design and style. You can either order one custom or make your own. Most urban areas usually have a stained glass studio that teaches stained glass and you can walk away with your own stained glass masterpiece. Add some brassy light fixtures and you've got a reverent entrance.

Tile
Entries aren't usually terribly long or wide, so you can add some extra drama with ceramic tiles. This is where you can get some real bang for your buck. Let's say your entry is 6x10. You can usually get nice, good quality ceramic tile for between $1.99 and $3.99 per square foot. Exotic Spanish tiles like Talavera which come in a cornucopia of color and design, bring an exotic flourish to an entrance. Add a great terra cotta pot with a snazzy Ficus or palm and you've got a great entry to your space.

Mirrors
Since entries are usually fairly small, the well placed mirror or three can really open up the space. It can be anything from a simple, single mirror on the wall to a series of vertical mirrors that open up the hallway and give people a sense of expansion. Add some storage possibilities from above and you've got a great entry combo.
